Franklin McCain
Chairman
Franklin McCain, Jr. is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of Greater Greensboro, where he leads one of the region’s most influential nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing equity, education, financial stability, and community well-being. Under his leadership, United Way has strengthened cross-sector partnerships, expanded community impact initiatives, and elevated data-driven strategies to address the most pressing challenges facing Greater Greensboro.
A proud alumnus of North Carolina A&T State University, Mr. McCain carries forward a deep legacy of leadership, service, and social responsibility. He is the son of the late Franklin McCain, Sr., one of the Greensboro Four whose courageous sit-in at the Woolworth lunch counter in 1960 helped ignite the modern Civil Rights Movement. Inspired by this legacy, Mr. McCain has dedicated his career to building inclusive systems and empowering communities through collaboration, accountability, and sustained investment.
Prior to joining United Way of Greater Greensboro, Mr. McCain built an accomplished career in nonprofit leadership, public service, and organizational development, with a strong focus on strategic planning, community engagement, and measurable outcomes. His work reflects a commitment to aligning resources with impact, ensuring that philanthropy, corporate partnerships, and public institutions work together to create lasting change.
Mr. McCain is widely respected for his steady leadership, thoughtful vision, and ability to unite diverse stakeholders around a shared mission. Through his service, he continues to honor his family’s historic legacy while shaping a future rooted in opportunity, equity, and collective progress for generations to come.
Deidra Merriweather

Deidra C. Merriwether is the Chief Financial Officer of W.W. Grainger, Inc., a Fortune 500 industrial supply company and one of the world’s leading distributors of maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) products. In her role, she oversees Grainger’s global finance organization, including financial planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, tax, audit, investor relations, and enterprise risk management, supporting a multibillion-dollar enterprise serving millions of customers worldwide.
Ms. Merriwether is a highly respected finance executive with deep expertise in corporate finance, capital allocation, operational excellence, and large-scale transformation. She is known for her ability to align financial strategy with long-term business objectives, drive disciplined growth, and deliver value for shareholders while supporting innovation and operational agility across complex global organizations.
Prior to becoming CFO, Ms. Merriwether held senior leadership roles within Grainger’s finance organization, where she was instrumental in advancing financial transparency, strengthening governance, and supporting the company’s digital and supply-chain evolution. Her leadership style is marked by rigor, clarity, and collaboration, enabling teams to navigate market volatility while maintaining strong financial performance.
Beyond her executive responsibilities, Ms. Merriwether is recognized as a trusted advisor to the executive leadership team and Board of Directors, bringing a strategic perspective shaped by experience across multiple business cycles and economic environments. She is also a strong advocate for leadership development, inclusion, and building high-performing teams.

Shamika Pyfrom
Executive Director - AAF
Shamika Pyfrom serves as the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Development and Executive Director of the Aggie Athletic Foundation (AAF) at North Carolina A&T State University. In this dual capacity, she provides strategic leadership for the university’s athletic fundraising efforts, driving initiatives that strengthen resources for scholarships, facilities, and student-athlete development.
Since the AAF's formation in 2011, following the merger of the historic Aggie Club and Victory Club, Pyfrom has been a central figure in guiding the Foundation’s growth and impact. Under her leadership, the AAF has achieved historic milestones, including surpassing the $1 million fundraising mark in 2020, expanding donor engagement through signature events, and supporting major capital projects such as the Glover Sports Performance Center.
With a passion for building relationships and advancing Aggie Athletics' mission, Pyfrom works closely with alumni, corporate partners, and community supporters to create unmatched opportunities for investment and engagement. Her vision continues to strengthen the culture of giving at North Carolina A&T, ensuring that student-athletes have the resources and facilities needed to compete at the highest levels while excelling academically.
Darnell Brame

Darnell Brame is the Assistant Director of the Aggie Athletic Foundation (AAF) at North Carolina A&T State University, where he plays a key role in advancing the university’s athletic fundraising initiatives. In this position, he supports the AAF's strategic vision by managing donor relations, coordinating engagement opportunities, and helping grow resources that directly support student-athlete scholarships, athletic programs, and facility enhancements.
Dedicated to fostering a culture of giving and community, Brame works closely with alumni, corporate partners, and friends of the university to strengthen connections and create meaningful opportunities for involvement. Through his efforts, the AAF continues to provide exclusive donor experiences, expand its membership base, and support the championship tradition of Aggie Athletics. With a passion for service and Aggie Pride, Brame is committed to ensuring that North Carolina A&T’s student-athletes have the support and resources they need to excel both on the field and in the classroom.
